(The Poverty of Libertarianism)
Overview of Unit
This five-day unit for 3rd grade allows for learning, reflecting, and the use of Strategic Thinking. The purpose of this unit is to educate students on the topic of poverty around the world and in the education systems. Students will develop a better understanding of what poverty is, what poverty affects, and how we can help to fix the problems associated with poverty. This lesson includes Literature Arts and Science standards.
Day 5 has been developed into a full lesson plan that meets the following standards:
- Day 1: What is Poverty?
- Day 2: What are the factors of Poverty?
- Day 3: How is Poverty defined around the World?
- Day 4: How does Poverty affect the School Systems?
- Day 5: How can we help with the problems associated with Poverty in the School Systems?
Day 5 has been developed into a full lesson plan that meets the following standards:
- (AZ.3.W.4) With guidance and support from adults, produce functional writing (e.g., friendly and formal letters, recipes experiments, notes/messages, labels, graphs/tables, procedures, invitations, envelopes) in which the development and organization are appropriate to task and purpose
- (3-LS4-4) Make a claim about the merit of a solution to a problem by citing relevant evidence about how it meets the criteria and contraints of the problem
- Also includes Strategic Thinking
